We rolled up to the W- Miami around 11:00 pm on a Friday night and it seemed that the place was just getting started. Assembled in the lobby was a host of trendy men in tight t shirts with their female counterparts in tighter skirts. Although we never had a chance to take in the hotel night life my sense was that it certainly was there for the taking. Unlike other W Hotels that I have stayed in I was very pleasantly surprised by the spacious, room with a sectional sofa, large desk, two plasma tvs, very large bathroom with a lovely Danby marble, double sink, and four shower head shower. In short, the room was great and it more than met my expectations. Our room had an ocean view with a small but welcome balcony and a couple of comfy chairs which we spent a few hours reading in.
Located on 22nd and Collins, I liked the location. Not exactly in the thick of it all but close enough to walk or grab an Uber Car in a matter of minutes.
While I was too rushed/lazy to use the gym I still poked my nose in the door. They had all the basics for cardio, stretching or weight training and the place was immaculately kept. A few floors up there was a roof top tennis and basketball court with free loaner equipment available at the front desk.
One of the highlights of the hotel is “The Dutch” restaurant and bar where we had breakfast every morning and lunch once. I highly recommend a lunch with a bottle of wine at The Dutch. I dinned with three others and everyone was impressed with the quality and uniqueness of the food. The pool area is well sheltered from the wind as it is surrounded by large palm trees (which helps in January) and is stocked with great lounge furniture and a staff that was very service oriented. Although the days that we were there the weather was not really beach worthy we did take a walk down to check out the layout. Once again, all the beach furniture was new, tasteful and looked comfy…with slightly warmer weather I would have been keen to spend time oceanside at The W.
Summing it up, my expectations were more than met on every single front including little things like a great concierge desk, fast elevators with no waiting, nice toiletries and towels, and good location. Really, not a single disappointment came out of the Miami W Hotel. Sorry if I sound all promotional but it was a great hotel experience.
